Scholarship winner
Off the back of International Women's Day and continuing with the theme of celebrating women and their achievements.
The winner of the 2023 AWDA scholarship is Keri Algar, from Cabriata Spirits. Keri will be hosted by Old Kempton Distillery for a three day distillers course, to learn the workings of a craft distilling through to the behind the scenes aspects of the business. See photos below of the distillery....
This scholarship will be a milestone moment on her journey as she fills knowledge gaps and hopes to firm up her vision for Cabarita Spirits and Soltera Rum.
Fuelled by tropical island rum bar dreams, two years ago Keri single handedly started a nano distillery to make cane spirits and rum in the Northern Rivers of NSW. She uses traditional methods and a small copper pot still to handcraft spirits from hyper local and sustainable molasses. Her award-winning products under the flagship Soltera Rum brand are testament to her determination, a passion for producing the best rum possible and her willingness to constantly learn to fine tune her craft.
We are thrilled that we have been able to help Keri along with her dream. In addition, the AWDA will provide Keri with money to contribute towards flight and accommodation expenses to attend the Old Kempton Distillery School.
Congratulations Keri!
Thank you to all of our members who submitted applications for the Distillers Scholarship at old Kempton Distillery.
