King Island Distillery News
King Island wins tidy and sustainable town of Tasmania in Keep Australia Beautiful. King Island is a 2022 National Finalist in the
National Australian Sustainable Communities Tidy Town awards representing Tasmania. Lona Turvey and Cynthia Maxwell-Smith Tasmanian Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns judges said the overall winner, King Island, stood out for several reasons. “It amazed us at how this community is served by volunteers. Nearly everyone we met and so many services provided are entirely, or mostly run by volunteers.” Mrs Turvey added, "The community of King Island showed an enormous passion for their unique environment, ancestry and looking after themselves and others."
The King Island scheelite mine will again host one of the highest grade tungsten deposits (used to strengthen steel), which was dormant for over three decades.
The Group 6 Metals Company is now fully financial for the redevelopment of the Dolphin Tungsten project at Grassy, King Island. A $49 million contract is in place to begin the project from the design through to everything being in place on the island, to start operations.
Hydro Tasmania King Island will install the infrastructure from the two million dollars funded by the Tasmanian Government to supply the power source for the mine, located South East of King Island, Tasmania.
