Upon committing to the design and construction of Ocean Dunes, Graeme realised that bringing this dream to life required complete immersion. Graeme and his wife, Denise, relocated from Melbourne to King Island, initially expecting a brief stay of 18 months. However, their dedication to the project extended into years of hard work and love for the land. This hands-on approach allowed Graeme to formulate innovative design ideas, ensuring the wild beauty of King Island's west coast was honored in the final product.
“As soon as the decision was made to proceed, I knew I had to fully commit to the design and construction. Working directly on the site was the only way to truly do it justice,” said Graeme Grant, Director of Graeme Grant Golf Designs. “Moving from our home and family in Melbourne meant we had to embrace this monumental task for three years. We started with the holes closest to the main water source – holes 1 and 18. Yet, I quickly realised that my vision for the most spectacular hole, straddling a charming inlet, needed to be prioritised. Fortunately, a small dam nearby allowed us to create the 4th hole, which has become our 'signature hole' and a key feature for marketing purposes.”
